West Seattle Community Garden
We are thrilled to announce our first project in a urban area. Recently, the Seattle Pea-Patch program was bequeathed an empty city lot with the stipulation that it be turned into a community garden, where people can pitch in with the labor and share in the harvest, with a sizable portion given to the West Seattle Food Bank. We loved the idea but recognize that it takes a fair amount of money to get the supplies necessary to get this started. Things like tools, a watering system, accessible raised beds, etc. add up pretty quickly and the city doesn’t fund any of this. To turn this community garden into reality, we funded the raised beds and a tomato trellising system and expect to fund more projects as the final design work gets completed. Our hearts are still in the wilderness, but the people are in the city and outdoor access there is equally important.
